Restoring a Bergère Suite
The PROBLEM
This beautiful three piece Bergère suite had wonderful bones, but after many years use the upholstery was tired, flat and showing its age. The original fabric had faded and worn, while the cushions had lost much of their shape and support.
The frames themselves, however, were beautifully crafted and full of character. Most importantly, the original cane was still in excellent condition, so there was no need to replace it. The aim therefore was to completely restore the upholstery while preserving the character and integrity of the original suite.
WHAT WE DID
The suite was completely stripped back and traditionally reupholstered, rebuilding the seating from the frame up using traditional upholstery techniques.
The original springing was renewed and the upholstery carefully built up by hand to create a supportive, comfortable seat while retaining the shape and character of the original pieces.
The suite was finished with luxurious feather cushions, including box seat cushions and round, pleated scatter cushions, all made specifically for the suite.
The original cane was in excellent condition and was carefully preserved throughout, allowing the beautiful craftsmanship of the Bergère frames and cane work to remain a feature of the finished pieces.
The result
A complete transformation.
The tired, faded upholstery has been replaced with fresh, beautifully tailored fabric, while the newly rebuilt seating gives the suite a renewed sense of comfort and support.
The five generous feather box cushions and five round-pleat scatter cushions add softness and luxury, while the original cane and beautifully carved wooden frames remain exactly where they belong — at the heart of the design.
A traditional restoration that respects the original furniture, while giving this much-loved suite a completely new lease of life.
Restoring a Louis XV Style Bergère
The PROBLEM
This elegant Louis XV-style bergère occasional chair had seen better days. The original cane work had deteriorated over time, leaving the woven seat pad and the two blind-caned side panels in need of complete renewal.
With its beautifully shaped frame and characteristic Louis XV styling, the chair was well worth preserving. The aim was to restore the cane work while respecting the character and proportions of the original piece.
WHAT WE DID
The old cane was carefully removed and the chair prepared for its new work. The seat was completely re-woven, while both side panels were blind caned by hand, carefully following the original pattern and proportions.
The result
The chair has been beautifully refreshed, with strong, fresh cane that restores both its appearance and functionality, along with the finishing touch of a new seat pad.

Bringing a Bergère Back to Life
The problem
This elegant vintage two-seater Bergère sofa featured beautifully carved arms and feet but had fallen into disrepair. The cane back was brittle and broken in several places, and the sprung seat had become saggy and unsupportive. As a treasured family piece, it deserved a thoughtful and lasting restoration.
What we did
After careful assessment, we carried out a full restoration. The damaged cane was completely replaced to ensure strength and longevity. The seat was fully re-sprung to restore proper support, and the wooden frame was gently cleaned and nourished to revive its natural beauty. Two bespoke scatter cushions were also added for comfort and to help protect the cane back.
The result
The sofa has been beautifully revived, honouring its original craftsmanship while making it fit for everyday use once again.

Modern Dining Reimagined
The problem
These eight modern Next dining chairs were central to a beautifully renovated old school house. Over time, the original vinyl upholstery had begun to disintegrate, despite the chairs still being loved for their shape and comfort.
What we did
We explored a variety of upholstery options, starting with vinyl for practicality. However, the brief evolved, and my clients chose a moleskin velvet for its soft texture, durability, and stain-resistant qualities — perfect for a busy dining space. To add depth and interest, they selected three complementary colours, carefully tying in with other elements of the room.
The result
The finished set is a beautifully curated collection that perfectly complements the space — balancing practicality with thoughtful design.

A Bold Parker Knoll Refresh
